Recognizes an aspiring professional with a significant interest in developing a career in African American genealogy.
Kenyatta Berry served as APG President from 2012 through 2013. As the host of PBS's Genealogy Roadshow, she helped popularize the exploration of family history. Currently, she hosts Conversations with Kenyatta, a diverse podcast with a focus on African American genealogy. Additionally, Kenyatta is a contributor to the 1619 Project, a program re-examining the legacy of slavery in the United States.
- Purpose. To recognize an aspiring professional with a significant interest in African American genealogy and dedicated to pursuing a professional career in this specialty.
- Frequency. Annually, but may not be awarded every year.
- Eligibility. Limited to one entry per person, the online form must be submitted by 5 pm Eastern on 10 July of the year in which the scholarship is awarded. The scholarship is non-transferable.

Criteria. The application must contain the following: name, address, contact phone number, email address, list of relevant extracurricular activities (including applicant’s organizations and volunteer activities), short answers to the following (up to 500 words per question):
a) How do you see yourself involved in African American genealogy over the next five years?
b) How do you imagine you will use the information gleaned from the Professional Management Conference (PMC) in your career?
Award recipient evaluation is based on the following elements, (for a total of 75 points):
a) Follow instructions (keeping answers within word count limits) 5 points;
b) Extracurricular activities (organizations, volunteer activities, etc.) 10 points; and
c) Answers to essay questions 1 and 2. Maximum 30 points each question, for a total of 60 points.
- Selection. The application form for the scholarship is posted on the APG website. The Awards Committee, with the approval of the Executive Committee, recommends the recipient. All decisions of the judges and the Executive Committee are final. The award consists of:
a) one registration for the APG Professional Management Conference which must be used within two years of award notification; and
b) Reimbursement of up to $1,000 for hotel and travel expenses when attending the PMC in person.
- Presentation. Awarded at the PMC. The committee will notify the recipient in advance of the PMC to allow proper planning for their attendance in person or online if the conference is virtual/hybrid.
